XJ Build Up
Hi i am looking at xj's from 88-96 ish. i am looking at lift kits for em and want at least a 4 inch lift, on all lifts 4inches or higher it is recomened a extended driveshaft and slip yoke eliminator. do you think i reallly should get a cv driveshaft and slip yoke eliminator for a lift 4" or higher or is not necessary? also stock as you probs all know the cherokees come with front dana 30 rear dana 35. you think those r tough enough to put lockers on? if not what axels are the easiest to fit in an xj without shortening them? please help me out guys. thanks!

An SYE is your best route. However, with a 4" lift you can get by just fine with a TC crossmember drop kit. In fact, most 4" lift kits I know of come with a TC crossmember drop kit, now.

yes all XJ's came with a dana 30 for the front but for the rear they had the d35, crysler 8.25, and the early early years even had a d44 as an option. the locker really depends on what size tires you plan to run.
as for the axle part...anything will fit, as long as you're willing to cut and weld

Unfortunately no, you can't use the stock rear DS with a SYE. Once you install the SYE you will need a DS with the slip joint built into it. You are in luck, though. With a 4ish inch lift you can use a stock front XJ DS in the rear with your new SYE. It's a nice way to not get stuck with having to throw cash down for the SYE and an expensive custom made DS at the same.
