Default Xj with 5.3 LS, Gauge Help Please

So I have a 98 xj with a 5.3 LS swap. Bought it that way and have been doing things like AC and lift/wheels, etc so far.

It has the dummy lights cluster and I figured the easiest option to get a functional set is to get the autometer cluster. I've rigged up water, oil, and other temperature pressure gauges in other cars, but I'm wondering how Fuel Gauge will work?

Does it just tap into wire coming from tank? I'm assuming it's going to be more complicated than that.

Why would it be? Just get the right fuel level gauge (I think it's 240-33 ohm) and hook up the wire to it.

ok, I was forgetting that part. So I need to look for right ohm range from autometer, I see. Thanks

when you get the autometer gauge, make sure it registers full and empty the way it should. The sending units can register high voltage (low resistance) when full or empty. IIRC ours register full with high voltage

thanks I did. Going Phantom series I for whole set up. 240 ohm empty 33 ohm full

Went with the autometer 5381 cluster with 2 1/16 water temp, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. MPH and tach for bigger ones of course.

You know for the price you probably spent on the Autometer gauges, you could have got a nice Racepak display. And it does waaaayyyyy more then any standard gauge would do. I went with Livorsi CAN BUS gauges (not on the Jeep) and it cost me a couple hundred more then a Racepak and still does way less. Lesson learned.

I am aware of those type systems but not familiar, went with what I "knew". I'm sure it is a superior product data wise, but I also don't really like the digital/tablet looking displays. For cluster and all gauges I'm right around $600 after site discount and autometer rebate they have going on now. Not too bad.

That's a lot cheaper then I thought. I did the same thing when I had my 70 Camaro and it was $1000 for 6 Autometer gauges. Racepak is near $900. Nothing else to say other then carry on and good luck. And...

I'd like to see some pics of the LS setup.
