Wrong Block... now what?
I purchased a stroker from a small engine builder for my 2001 XJ and they assured me they were sending the proper block. Original engine is a casting 53010449 and the new is a 53010328AB which I believe is a 2000 up TJ/WJ. The differences as many know are as follows:
1. belt driven accessory mounting has different bosses, lack of tapped holes and lack of machining on the block.
2. RH side motor mount one boss is not long enough, I can probably shim it out with a spacer.
3. LH side motor mount I believe will work if I cut/grind a boss off shorter for clearance.
In all I think I have to drill or drill & tap around six or seven holes.
Not happy with all that but can handle drilling, tapping and grinding. What I don't know what to do with is my original oil sending unit attaches just above the oil filter adapter and the new block does not have this hole or provision for one. Where can I mount the oil pressure sending unit?
I appreciate your advice.
Just found the npt tapped hole below the oil filter mount. I had overlooked it before.

FYI for anyone else viewing this thread:
XJ Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
2000+ TJ Wrangler and WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
XJ/ZJ blocks, and the 2000+ TJ/WJ blocks DO NOT interchange without significant modifications. (1991 to 1995 YJ and 1997-1999 4.0L TJ Wrangler blocks will interchange in XJ/ZJ and visa-versa).
TJ/WJ 4.0L Engine blocks underwent clean sheet design changes effective in the 1999 WJ Grand and 2000 TJ Wrangler. These blocks are not interchangeable with XJ/ZJ engine blocks. The reason is motor mount bolt holes and belt driven accessory mounting bolt holes are in different locations, or not present at all, TJ/WJ vs. XJ/ZJ.
XJ: "Regular" (not Grand) Cherokees 84-01
ZJ: Grand Cherokee 93-98 (Gen1)
WJ: Grand Cherokee 99-04 (Gen2)
YJ: Wrangler 87-95 (Gen1)
TJ: Wrangler 97-06 (Gen2)

Idk exactly if this is the same block you have, sounds like it is (TJ/WJ) but this guy swaps one into an xj.
It's been awhile since I watched the video so I can't say exactly how useful it will be, but I recall it was pretty good.
