Default WJ Master Cylinder/Resevoir/Booster Swap 97-01

So let me start by saying this. The MC out of my XJ is toast, it's done, it's very apparent that some seals are disintegrated and the mc needs to be replaced. Also, mine is a 99 and I know that the booster and mc are very similar, if not identical. Without thinking, I went down to the junkyard and spent 70 bucks on the booster/mc out of a 2004 WJ, with discs all the way around. So I have those parts now, and I don't want to drive 3 towns over again to return them.

Also, while there were 3 WJs at the yard available, 2 of them had been completely gutted, and I wasn't able to even get the P/S pump I wanted out of any of them. All that was left was the booster/mc on this one, and the MC is missing the reservoir. I was wondering, can I use the reservoir from my XJ MC, or will I have to go back and snag the reservoir off of another WJ? Also, will I see any improvement aside from a fresh MC from the booster? Is the piston diameter of the disc/disc WJ MC larger at all than the one from my 99 XJ? Just some stuff I felt like asking that I couldn't find answers for with the search function. Thanks for your time.

You are shooting yourself in the foot here. Just buy yourself a new MC for your xj. The wj one will give you no improvement over what you have and you will need to make new brake lines from the mc to prop valve, modify the push rod to work with your brake switch and grind your firewall some for the wj booster to fit. For what? 0 upgrade. Your 99 already has the dual diaphragm brake booster, that is why the older xj people, like myself, upgraded to the wj master/booster is because we had single diaphragms.

The braking power comes from the booster, not the MC. As for the resevoir fitting, i really doubt that also.

But OleBlue, I've already shot myself in the foot, I know, I was just looking for a way to salvage the situation. Guess I can't. Thanks for the feedback.

get a 99-04(i think those are the right years) MC out of a durango and a 96+ xj booster

the durango MC has the same mounting style as the xjs and has i think a .25'' larger bore than the xjs and is bolt in
