The 9 inch 44 hes talking about is full width and really just 1/2 ton axles. The reasons most don't use a 9 inch is besides one maybe 2 cars they are full width or wider and the lug pattern also most are 5x5.5 lug.other things the car ones unless a big block are 28 spline which is as strong as a stock 8.25 the truck ones are 31 spline which is good to maybe 37s,But if you upgrade to 35 spline or 40 spline then they are a lot stronger but the cost goes with it.Other thing what it cost to swap a axle in a xj you might as well go 1 tons they are already a lot stronger then a 1/2 ton axle and even if you beef up those 1/2 tons to what a 1 ton is stock your probably spending more then a used 1 ton would have cost from the get go.I am a ford guy and honestly most unless they have a mud truck will replace the 9 inch with a 8.8 for rear disc or upgrade to a dana 60 and sterling rear end.If your heart set on a 9 inch currie does have a xj width housing that comes with axles http://www.currieenterprises.com/CE-JXJ8401X and you still need a 3rd member and brakes and they offer a front 9 inch also but you might not wanna hear the price of it.

Here's the deal... I have a corporate that is wore out and have access to all the 9 inch take outs I could ever need. I could spend the same on this Corporate and a lunch box or fab a 9 inch limited slip in it and spend less to gear it 3.55 to match the front. And the 9" is unbreakable as you know...

Any wisdom and experience you could spare with this swap option would be fantastic man!
full width out of a 79 bronco. its 65" wms which is about 5 inches wider than stock. its fully trussed (top and back) and equipped with 35 spline chromo shafts, ARB, nodular 3rd, and daytona pinion support. i have a 77 F250 HP44 up front. i love the added width. Way more stable on off camber situations and with my setup (35s) they are borderline unbreakable besides the front hubs.

i will say, i bought these axles pretty much as is so i got a significant cost savings over what it would have taken to build them myself. i probably would have got a set of tons if i were to start fresh.

Default Ford 9" and hp d44

I use this set up under my Cherokee and find it's great I run 35" tires and have a stocked 4.0L I did install 1/2" thick wall axle tube in both front and rear myself use 35 spline chrome axles in 9" and I think 31 spline in front chrome of course. I figure if they have been use for years in the drag world the should hold up in my application. Installing the 9" rear was with minimal effort and didn't take long at all the front was a little harder and was easiest with a bracket kit but not real hard. I kept full width for stability but could not be happier with the outcome or performance.

Something cool about these I found from overloading the heck out of old ford pickups is that in reality, they could be considered as and rated as a one ton axle.

"I figure if they have been use for years in the drag world the should hold up in my application."

This was my thought too! And they are not a C clip diff. Thank you for sharing! Great set up!

Lots of good information here, I'm glad I wasn't to off base with my thought process.

Look at that! Is that a wishbone 5 link set up? Not sure I have seen this before. I wonder how well it works?

Great! Look at all that travel! Do you mind sharing what application those coil overs are for? Or did you just measure out and buy what you needed for it?

they are 14" travel coilovers. im on my third different set of springs and they finally seem to be working well in conjunction with the front. used to be way too soft in the rear.

I guess there is always an "adjustment" process with custom set ups like this.
