Why can I only use 4-low offraod? Would re gearing help?
I lifted my cherokee 3" and threw some 30" mud king tires under her. Every time I go wheeling, I can't hit the hills or any obsticale in 4 high. On hills, I lose all of my power to where I can only go up stuff in 4 low second gear. Is this hard on the vehicle? It sounds terrible offroad a real bad rowl rowl rowl sound. Any suggestions?

No its normal for it to be louder in 4 low mine wines like crazy but so does any rig in 4 low . If you are easy on it its better to just role slow in 4 low rather than burning clutch. I assume you have a 5 speed like me cause that is what I do, 4 low in second

its way harder on your vehicle trying to go up that stuff in 4 hi.
your temp is gonna rise, tranny or clutch is gonna get hot and burn up.
use 4 low...transfer cases are noisy in 4 low.

I think that a large number of us here run ours in 4low when wheeling... might be wrong. With mine I run it in 4low because it's easier on the entire driveline. High is more for driving on the road. I regeared mine to 3.73 after I lifted mine 3.5" it made it so that I can do some things off road in high but generally it's 2nd gear and low. Hope this helps...

what does this even mean??^^^
4 lo is made for crawling slow along the trails, you don't go up a steep hill in 4 hi because 4 hi is the same as 2wd its made for on road speed, 4 lo is made for trail riding, easier on the drivetrain. thats why u cant go over 40 mph in 4 lo. if you think 4LO is pointless then u don't know much about jeeps. u try using 4 hi in the sand and tell me how you do. you can use 4 hi on the easy trails and sticky mud. but your going to go through more in 4 lo because 4 hi will bog down the motor

I back off the trailer in 4low and don't change it unless I'm doing some higher speed running say above 15 or so. you get more power to the ground in 4 low with the reduction in the gears.

My tube chassis mud racer was locked in 4lo. It did only run straight lines but it hauled ***. It has a 540ci CBB and 4.88 in the front and 5.13 in the rear. I never had a problem with leaving it in 4lo. In fact the tcase linkage was welded so it would not come out of 4lo.
Now turning was a PITA. Both front and rear are spooled.

4 high is used when you need wheel speed, or when riding around on easy stuff. 4 low is used when control, traction, and more gear reduction is needed. To carry that a step further. I have a t-case doubler, and have a 2 lo ability which is what I roll around in until I hit an obstacle
