Where to start on my new xj???
Hey there. this is my first post and i was just wondering were to go with my new purchase. so far this is what i know of my xj. 1986 xj with a 2.8l v6 5speed. has an easy ride lift, american racing wheels black steelies. with 32x10.5x15 bfg at. has homemade front and rear bumpers on it. gutted with a cheap roll bar welded into the back. right now its gutless. but it runs and drives. i was just wondering what i could do to get some more power out of it for now. i eventually would like to swap in a v8 or I6. and and i heard something about the axles being good? not to sure. iv owned the jeep for about 3 days now lol. so please any and all help and info will be greatfull. thanks

Start with changing all the fluids.
If you want power look into swapping in a 3.4 GM motor from a '93-'95 Camaro or Firebird.
You can't easily swap in a I-6 due to the firewall limitations. The '87 & up firewall is diff. to allow the use of the 4.0.
The axles are the less desirable ones. The front is a HP30 with CAD & the rear is the better of the two Dana 35's. You probably have the 4.10 or 4.56 gears.

Dang guys, no class. If I was OP I would tell you nunya as in none of your business what I paid. What are you his financial planner? You were very helpful in showing him what kind of snob's can hang out here though.

Might have a lunchbox locker up front. They lock up automatically under torque, but will ratchet to allow diff action with no power.
