Default Wheel Spacers: Yay or Nay?

So, I recently got the XJ up to 4.5-5" and my 32s mounted - really the last obstacle is some inside wheel rub and I'd like to get a slightly wider stance. But, I love my Icon 16" wheels and don't ant to buy a new set for the back spacing.

Here's my question: a) anything wrong with throwing some spacers on to give the tires full clearance? b) any suggestions on brand/type c) open to recommendations on width for ultimately clearance/performance.

Thanks, y'all...

Nothing wrong with a good set of spacers if you maintain them and take care of them. Spidertrax or Syngergy. Not the $99 set off of eBay.

Rims are the best option but you want to keep your icons ha

Getting rims with less back spacing is ideal. Not sure if they make 16" rims with around 4" of back spacing or not though, but there is nothing wrong with spidertrax spacers. Rims are just stronger and it's one less thin to fail.

I bought new RC spacers for $120 for all 4. Haven't had an issue yet, others haven't had any either. Use Loctite and keep an eye on them.

I ran spacers for a year or so that I got on ebay many years back. Never had an issue running them with loctite.

Not a fan of spacers myself, I just wouldn't buy the ebay crap. I would want a responsible name behind that kind of product. Just make sure you check torq settings at every oil change after the initial 50-100 mile install inspection.

I was on the same boat. I had silver soft 8s with 4" bs. I didn't want the spacers and needed an excuse to buy new rims...lol. I went with 3.75 AR-23s.

I have 4.5" and 33s

Deep down you already know the answer to ur ?, follow ur heart and common sence. Because if your asking us, then that means you already have reservations about spacers. Just sayin..

IMO.

There is nothing wrong with spacers. I would personally not want another weak link. I would go with back spacing on different rims. I understand you liking your current rims. I don't think it would adversely affect you either way.

Probably some truth to that...good input, either way!

That's two for "avoid a weakest link scenario"...so I will take that point seriously. I guess in cheaping out n my lift, I've realized just how much more expensive it ends up being in the end to do it right when you should have just done it that way to begin with.

Rims with less backspacing would be the better option; I, however, have run spacers for a while no problem, ebay spacers too. Just make sure they are the same grade aluminum as the big names when you buy them.

We put them on my son's old XJ, never had a single problem.

They are a great alternative to buying new rims.
