For my mount, I drilled a 1 inch hole in my bumper and welded a pipe in just flush with the top of the bumper, welded it on the bottom in the inside, and drilled a hole in my bumper through the pipe so I can put a pin in it. If I need to get in my hatch, I pull the pin and pull the flag pole out. Takes 10 seconds if that. I ground down the welds and painted it black to match the bumper. When the pole isn't there, it looks like just a factory hole. Thought about making another one but bigger for a fishing pole holder but I'm not sure yet if I want to

Built mine using EMT and expanded metal. Carry spare axles other small parts in a low wide waterproof box, camping gear, 100' recovery cable with snap and 4" ring, misc. gear. Total construction cost $40 + or - all reclaimed.

I got a bunch of EMT conduit. I can't weld it as my welder burns through even on the lowest setting

Must be your welder or wire size.

What brand model welder is it? I happen to be a welder fanatic haha. Try pulsing the trigger quickly.

Is it solid core or flux core wire? Pulsing wont work as good with a flux core wire but you could still probably make it work.

If its the "hobo" freight machine with the low/high power setting then try this:
-Set your power to low
-Set your wire speed as high as you can while keeping it welding smooth
-Pulse the trigger. Depress the trigger about as long as you can say "1", then release the trigger till you see the orange weld pool begin to fade, or cool off, then depress the trigger again and repeat. Basically just count in your head 1,2,1,2,1... On 1 depress, on 2 release. Do this while keeping a steady travel speed, correct torch angle, and proper stickout or arc length.

This method works exceptionally well with solid core on thin metal and should work alright on a hobo freight machine with flux core, just face it, your welds wont be pretty when your done! Good luck!

I wish that were true but can't hold a candle to a lot here I drool over lol.

My welder is a 220 Miller about 10 yrs. old I guess now. Starbuck is correct on trying to use yours that way, wire quality is a factor as is the welder.
