If you actually you this ^ then you d35 should be in the trash heep by now. So if its still under your cherokee you really dont beat the **** out of your truck. buy a real rear axle and ditch the d35

^That + regardless of type of axle, swapping gears to run 31s is pointless. Money wasted.

Just get a D35 or whatever out of a 4 cyl or V6 Jeep. They have 4.10s already in them. Or you can also go with the Ford 8.8 out of a Explorer which can also be had with 4.10s

If you have an auto trans then the 4.10's should be just right. If your truly going to be racing in "dirt"...then a lunchbox style locker should be fine. If your into any kind of rocks or mud you might want to upgrade the rear axle.

I would agree, money to gain is not worth it. wait until you go 33+

Putting any money into a D35 when it will be abused is even more of a waist of $$$

Seriously , to answer your question if you do some research you will find that locking a 35 is never a good idea. Its a really weak axle. If you need a bolt in get a 8.25 axle then you can lock it and gear it if you like. If you know how to weld spring perches and shock mounts get a 8.8 from an explorer with 4.10 in it. That way you only have to regear the front. You could lock both these no problem.

X2. or get the 8.8 with lsd and put the locker in the front, lsd's are mostly junk, but are a little better then an open diff....

If you want to re-gear a D35 go for it, but even in sand or on pavement they break!

A automatic locker with 4.10 and 31" tires will be fine. Don't worry about it. But it will be cheaper for you to find a 4 cyl rear end than paying for a gear swap.

No, 3.73 was the optional ratio, custom order I believe. All 4 cyl and V6 models have 4.10s in them. I have some in mine.
