Default What happens when a dead spot is felt in steering?

When people talk about feeling a dead spot in there steering what is felt? I see people upgrading steering over a 6" lift. I'm at 6.5" plus. I have aftermarket track bar with stock mount on frame. Upgraded ZJ tierod. What are your suggestions and what am I looking for to feel the dead spot. Thanks

You're too tall for the factory set-up (ZJ tierod doesn't change the geometry).

You need an OTK setup

I wasn't thinking the ZJ tierod fixes that. I'm asking how do I know if I have a dead spot? What happens? Also why do I need a OTK setup? Asking cause I don't really know the advantages of that setup. Should I also get a extended track bar mount?

A dead spot is when your driving straight down the road and you can turn the steering wheel a few inches before it will turn the jeep. There is many reasons it happens most is wore out steering gear from the steering box to a tie rod ends. Now on a lifted 4x4 a dead spot can mean not having the right steering set up also.

It is basically "play" in the steering wheel, where the input does not really register an output (tires changing direction).
Turning the wheel past this "dead spot" will finally get the steering rack to register an output (wheels turning basically).

Kind of bad at explaining things but hopefully you get the gist.
