What do I need for a lift?
 

Bought me a 2000 XJ, it’s got 31s with no tread and a clapped out 2 inch rough country lift. (Sagging leafs, blown out shocks). I want to run 33s and I’ve figured out axle stuff and what I need. I want a 4.5 inch lift but those lift kits are stupid expensive. What parts will I need to piece my own together. I know I needs shocks, coils, leafs. But what else? Any type of control arm? Bars and rods for the front axle? I don’t have a rear sway bar and I don’t plan on getting any. Anyway this could be a stupid question but any help is appreciated thanks

Floor Jack, set of 4 Jack stands, full set of metric/ sae wrenches, 3/8 deep shallow socks, 1/2" deep/shallow, full set of pliers, screw drivers, ball joint press plus Master balljoint adapter set, dead blow ans sledge hammer, c clamp to compress calipers or the 60 Dollar special tool, pro bars, punches, chisels.
grinder with cutting disc 4-6", grinding wheels, flap Discs

sawzall long metal cutting blades. Use grinder to tune blade length for job.

1/2 makita or dewalt Import gun is nice.

SFr 3 link with sfr wj steering and track bar set. You pick whatever springs and shocks. Crown rear HD leafs srb with 6" long shackle. Tuned to match front height.

Ohhh you might need a welder.


You could try and save money, youl get junk shocks, short arms, ****ty steering, little to know straight line driveability your xj will turn out like 99% of jeeps. Horrible to drive and ride like hell. But somehow never gets stuck cause itl shatter your teeth off road.

You could save a LOT of money NOT buying a drive shaft, transfer case SYE mod, long arm lower control arms and regearing the differentials. I can wheel about 70% of the 4x4 trails in my state with a 3" lift. After spending thousands to place 33's under my Jeep, I could wheel 75% of the 4x4 trails in my state,

If your still set on 33's, they do make a long arm set that can be installed without welding and it costs a little less, then the ENTIRE 3" kit:

If you're not going to re gear I would say don't go over 31" tires, stock gears and 33s sucks.

The chart posted by Roninofako is great but I'd like to add that over 3" of lift short arms feel like going over a curb at speed.
