what brake lines for use with ZJ disc swap?
I need to know what lines I need to have to swap the ZJ brakes into my 2000 XJ?
I bought the basic parts off ebay, and have gathered everything else. The only lines that came with the parts was the really short piece that mounts directly to the caliper. I don't even know if I can reuse those. I'm ready to purchase today, and I know I'm kinda asking someone to help me cheat on my homework, so I really appreciate it. |
You use those flexible lines so the caliper can move back and forth. The hard line hooks into those. You will need a little metal bracket that the end of the flex line goes into and is secured These are WJ brakes, but you can see the little bracket and how the hard line has to hook into it

That's great, and I didn't have a detailed idea like that before, but I was looking more for, "Go here. buy this: (link provided)"

Wait. Are you saying that with those little pieces, I use the rest of what's on my XJ already?

Yes, sort of. You will need a proprotioning valve, located just off the master cylinder. Use the ZJ stuff and you will be good. If you cannot find one, I can send you one. The little bracket I used came off a WJ. Convenient since they are bolted on, so you can one for each side from the wrecking yard. You can loop your existing hard line or if you have double flaring kit you can shorten them.

Thanks for the assist. I have the proportioning valve. The parts I got off ebay were:
1. Calipers (i used them for core charge refund on a new set from rockauto) 2. the short line i mentioned 3. proportioning valve 4. backing plates I have since bought rotors and pads, and the new calipers also came with hardware. i bought partially loaded calipers (the kind that came with hardware but no pads) |
Not sure where you find those little brackets, but a wrecking yard would be a good source. There some little clips that are used with them on the brake hose, but those can be bought at a parts store

You will need two, one of each for each side
