its really easy to do. from what i understand 97+ is a bad idea to do the door removal to but if you have 96 and older its easy. i did this mod on my 88 xj over the summer and all you basically have to do is pull the door off (which can be a little difficult) DO NOT CUT THE WIRES if you have power accessories, there are stock quick disconnects either in the pillar or door. after the doors off, cut the bottom half of the hinge off and cut the pin too if need be. then you need to grind down the mounting plate. there is a good write up somewhere on here but im too lazy to find it. the pictures suck but should give you an idea of what to do. and dont be like me and think you dont have to cut the mounting plate, because you do otherwise your door wont go back on.

Depends on what year your XJ is.

Around 1996 they changed the style of hinge. What was shown by Juice is the old style. They are pretty easy.the newer ones are a bit different.

Also, I moved this from Fab to Advanced Tech. Fab is for ongoing projects, not questions.

From all of the advice I've heard, taking off and making doors easier to remove means that the doors lose their fluid motion and their ability to close tightly(unless done correctly). Whats the truth?

its depends on if you align them correctly after, all my doors close almost exactly the same, occasionally my drivers door doesnt close all the way so i open it and slam it and it shuts just fine. i havent had any problem with my doors at all.
edit: just take your time aligning the doors and everything should be fine
editx2: i just noticed you have a 96 so i cant be sure for you.

Also, if you grind the upper pin a bit shorter it makes it easier to line up. That way you can line up the bottom one first then once you get it started you can line up the top one.

Mine were super easy. My 98' had power everything, windows, locks, mirrors etc. There are quick connect plugs for the wires behind the kick panels (where the fuse block is and the behind the hood release). Then I opened the door and cut the vertical pins holding the two hinge pieces together.

I got hitch pins from Home Depot that were the same size as the pins I cut and knocked out. They have a head on top so they don't fall all the way through. I took off the metal piece attached to the top of them.

Then you can remove the doors without having to realign them by taking the hole hinge off and having to rehang the door. Just put the hinge together and drop the pins in. Easy.

The wires all pull through the hole in the a-pillar. I was able to do it by myself but its easier to have someone hold the door for you when you put it back on as you feed the wires through. Once the door hinges are reconnected you can plug the wires back in and put the plastic kick panel back on. Very easy mod. Took about an hour the first time cause I had to cut the existing hinge pins and get the right ones to replace them.
