Default water resistant rear axle?

I have a 29-spline 8.25 I need to get ready to swap into my XJ. I'll be pulling the axles to make the disc brake conversion, so obviously now is the time for new axle bearings & seals.

I'm wondering if there are seals available that make the rear axle more water resistant than the garden variety axle seals do?

Look at extending axle breathers that will do more good.More water gets in the factory breather on the axle then through the seals/bearings.

Extending the vent is the only thing that's going to do any good. Just use any quality seal.

Thanks for that guys. Just ordered National bearings and seals; they are Made in the USA should be good quality.

Also ordered new Centric rotors, pads & shoes from Partsgeek (for 1998 ZJ) to go with the disc brake conversion kit I got from Big David here on this forum. Ordered an Aussie Locker as well, from CSE offroad for $300 shipped. So...that will keep me busy for a while.

Nope. WAY more mucking around than I wanna do. I just want to reduce the chances of contaminating the oil in the axle housing. At $18/qt, it aint cheap.

Should have went with Timken bearings and seals. Hands down best on the market.

What gear oil are you buying for $18 a quart?

Redline Heavy Shockproof. It's real good at keeping things quiet.
