Water Proofing Engine Compartment?
What is required to water proof if you were going to drive XJ in water wear a snorkel was necessary? How do you waterproof a distributor? I'm debating a snorkel or just running a homemade set-up in to the cowling below the wipers.

there has been a lot of threads about this,
what i used to use was spray on motorcycle chain wax, spray it on to your electrics and it does a very fine job of insulating them.
not sure i would use it on the leads though.

Move the computer and power distribution box to inside the vehicle, then fill connection with dialectic grease to keep the water out. I simple just pack the dizzy with grease to keep sand and water out with other toys

Years ago we would liberally spray VO5 hairspray on the distributor and wire connections. Worked like a charm.
Need a little more waterproofing, Cover with a rubber glove. Cut small slits in the end of the fingers for the plug wires. Put the wrist end over the distributor. Duct tape the ends.

HA! just buy it in bulk, & re-apply after every time u open it
um, why has no one mentioned the power-house of the whole electrical system....the alternator??
clean water alone wont damage, but dirty water, mud & such will....& its most vulnerable area....best way to protect it, would be to relocate to top-side (only location option would be where the a/c WAS)
front end skid would be a good addition too

I've thought about kind of a shroud and a shield around the alternator, kinda of like a diff cover, but the problem is it would be a bowl and would work against you should the mud get topside... Idk if you guys can see what I'm thinking but it prolly won't work...

i'm thinkin relocating topside would be the best course of action, along with the other components weatherproofed, to be able to tread deep waters
