Default Vote, or Explain; Dana 35 to 44 Swap, Propeller Shaft Length?

One JCF patron said shorten it by one inch, another said that isn't required. For my 91', 4.0L, 4WD, 5 Speed, 2 Door, NP231... Swapping out a Dana 35 for a Dana 44 out of an 88'. The 44 pinion is 1" longer. Will the rear propeller shaft need to be shortened by 1"?

Please, yes, or no and why or why not?

Any lift? SYE? They are super close, I would slap it in and see how it looks.

2" Lift. No SYE. Looking at it through the eyes of an IT guy, it looks like it is going to fit. But I don't know the details. Just thinking out loud, shouldn't there be a certain amount of travel, forward and back? Shouldn't the slip yoke shaft be at a certain position in the yoke at rest? Like maybe the shaft should be centered (front to rear)? What I mean, if there is 5" of travel, shouldn't the shaft be centered at 2.5"? I have no idea what the length of travel is, I am just picking a number out of the air.

way back when I had a 3" lift in my 98 I was getting terrible vibes, not only from the bad angles but because there was only in inch or so of the slip yoke engaged with the t-case splines. If you have a little lift you probably have slightly oversized tires therefor your up travel is limited from stock. I would be much more concerned with the drive shaft falling out than having it bottom out in the t-case. If you have aspirations of a bigger badder rig a slip yoke eliminator is good investment.
