Default Is it very hard to install an upgraded Steering Stabilizer??

Hey all, Just bought a heavy duty steering stabilizer for my XJ. I'm a girl, not much experience wrenching but was curious to see how difficult the job would be??? I've played around with the suspension a bit, but I'm a little nervous about doing this without a mechanic. I've got a really bad shake going on anything over 35mph, just had the tires rotated then it started. I know my trackbar is an inch too short, the factory stabilizer is shot. I'm hoping this helps a bit. But I was just curious to see what the experts think. I know I'm going to need a front end alignment as well to rid of the shaking. How hard is it to install one of these puppies??

Install a stabilizer is easy, 20min max. But stabilizers are more like a bandaid for steering. If you put it on and the vibes go away or calm down go get an alignment. If it doesn't check your bushings all over the front axle.

Stabilizer will only temporarily cover up the problem..not a real solution

To answer your question..its easy

Your true problem is either your tie rod, trac bar, possibly drag link.. look at your front end bushings also.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for responding so quickly! I think I can do the job, you all made it seem easy. Yeah I know the bushings have never been changed, that could very well be part of the problem. I know for sure my track bar is bad, I bent it inward over the summer almost 2 inches lol opps that was on the dunes. Came down really hard on the passenger side, it's really been jacked up since then. Had part of the cassie bent back to place then re tempered. So far the damage has really put a hole in my wallet Lol, guess that's what I get for my love of the outdoors and off-road lifestyle. So worth it

Two bolts, done. The change is easy. Might take some heat, penetrating oil, pickle fork and BFH to get the drag link end out. That's worst case scenario though.

Sounds like it's time for a new track bar though, for starters. Look into Iron Rock Offroad's double sheer, RE's double sheer or Rockkrawler.

Read this for all other possibilities of a front end shake:

I might check having my tires rebalanced first.Sounds like it could be that simple since you stated it happened after the rotation.

Yeah, That's a great idea! I'm not sure if that place even balanced them, I'll try that as well. Because your right, as soon as I turned out of the tire store the shaking started, it was fine before that. But Yes I really need a trackbar that thing has seen better days ha ha

you should look into a iron rock offroad track bar they are solid steel, you'll never have to worry about bending ur trac bar again and adjustable for any size lift really and like only 160$ i think which is pretty cheap compared to wat u would get from other companies with weak tubing

Default Balanced the tires

Balanced front tires, shaking stopped. Thankfully nothing major.
Haven't done the stabilizer yet, just got it today!
Snowing like crazy so im not doing wrenching yet.
All the washers and spacers are freaking me out.
Dumb question, are there one or two steering stabilizers
Or just the one??? Thanks everyone for the advice!
