Default Which valve cover to buy?

Whoever installed or re-installed my 4.0L's current valve cover really screwed up. It looks like it is cracked or otherwise broken in two spots, has RTV sticking out all long the edges, and it leaks like crazy.

I'm looking for a new valve cover and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the "RT Offroad Aluminum Valve Cover Kits" from jeep4x4center.com. How high-quality is the gasket that comes with the set? Would you recommend getting a Fel-Pro gasket and installing that instead? Any quality concerns?

$100 for that valve cover.

$8.95 for a stock valve cover from the local junk yard. You could paint it a funny color if you think it's too plain.

I don't see the point in the crazy expensive one, even if it comes with a gasket.

Yeah get a stock one and if you want to be different you can paint it or even have it powder coated or hydro dipped.

Most of the XJs in the yards around here have been picked over but I may be able to find one with a valve cover still on it! Good suggestions. I'll take a look before buying a new one.

Around me, the valve cover is one of the last things to go. It's not a wear part and rarely breaks, so people rarely need them.

Also, carid.com has the Fel Pro gasket for about $10 less than everybody else.

I just bought the fancy one but might return it. I'ts sweet but I'd rather just replace the gasket and run stock cover
