Default uses of a hi lift?

ive noticed so many people have hi lifts on their lifted jeeps and i was looking at getting one until i learned there are almost no points on the xj that are good to be used with so whats the point in having one? just for looks?

also any suggestions for a good one for around $100 or less?

thanks,
joma

not for looks. you just need points to be able to use it.

aftermarket bumpers are best. sometimes hitches, sliders, use it as a come a long.

then again you never know if someone you wheel with may need one. always better to have rather than be stuck without it.

If your truck is stock or lifted mildly your stock jack is best, hi-lifts can be pretty sketchy if your not careful.

to be honest a bottle jack can do 75% of the jacking up with ease.

also if you do purchase a hi lift educate yourself with it before you strap it up on your jeep. Practice with it in the street on a level surface and understand how it works. Although im sure if you buy one at an offroad shop they would easily show you how to use it.

then again you can tell them "if ya show me how to use it, THEN ill buy it" then they would easily show ya :P

You can get attachments to that help. I've got this bumper hook attachment so you just hook it on and lift

well if you wheel by yourself...which you shouldnt...if you get stuck in some rocks you can lift it a bit to throw some rocks in the way to help ride out of it.

quite a few different uses for the jack. just google "hi lift jack uses"

im sure there will be some good info

There's attachments that let you use them as a winch as well, that's why I'm looking at buying one. I believe that Quadratec sells them for well under a hundred, but if you're ultra-cheap Harbor Freight has a "Farm Jack" for like $30 that at least looks the same.

ok i thought the point of a hi-lift was pretty damn straight forward but ill explain it as i suppose not everyone was raised around farms and offroading,

bigger lift and tires means that paper weight they send with the vehicle from the factory wont do much, especially when you get into the nasty stuff offroad.

aside from the obvious of lifting the vehicle whether to get yourself unstuck or change a tire[when changing a tire dont be an idiot and rely on the jack to support the vehicle get some sort of blocks],you can also use it as a winch/come-along, jaws of life and some other things im sure

but you do need solid jacking points or your likely to be doing reconstructive surgery on the body.

also keep in mind they didnt get the nick name of the jaw breaker for no reason, if you dont know what your doing and how it works you can do some serious bodily injury to yourself or others.

go through hi-lifts video library if you wanna know more

It's able to lift your vehicle if you're stuck on an obstacle, need to change a tire, need to get off of being high centered, or as a come-along and I'm sure lots of other things I'm not recalling off the top of my head.

I've been high centered a few times, and used mine to get unstuck in about a fraction of the time it would take to run winch cable or get someone at an angle to strap me off. A little lift here or there and you can drive off most things.

i would strongly advise against those cheap chinese knockoffs and suggest saving up for a real hi-lift, ive seen atleast half a dozen of those cheap jacks bend or the mechanical mechanism let go while lifting, leaving you with a holy**** moment.

ive used mine on the hitch and wheel arch before i had good bumpers but all depends on how stuck ya are and what condition the body is in, you can get straps that go through the tires as well, just google this s*** and you will get answers a lot faster than on here or watch the youtube link i posted, they have all their products on their
