u bolt question
Just got my new leaf springs delivered today. I put in an aal in December and used new ubolts. Since the u bolts aren't that old can I reuse them for the new springs or should I get new ones
|
Depends on how fat your leaf springs are that you bought you may need longer u bolts now. My guess is as long as you still have a decent amount of thread showing on the u bolts after torquing the springs down to the axle you should be good.

There is plenty of thread left. just wasnt sure if it was ok to reuse them. really didnt want to buy new ones so that sounds good thanks

normally, i'd say no, you will need new u-bolts.
the u-bolts are designed to stretch under torque. but if they're quality u-bolts to begin with (black tool steel with fine thread), then i'd say re-use them. but if they're the cheap chrome ones with course thread, get new ones, even tho they're not that old. i've seen brand new ones snap trying to torque them down. |

Glad he said something then I was assuming you would have got the black fine 20 thread u bolts. My lift came with those.

no i got the cheapish ones from fat bobs garage. that sucks but i should probably get better ones

i've reused u-bolts before and children did not die bc of it. just check on them to make sure they dont loosen up.

Answer me this everybody: so if I were to loosen my u bolts and take them off they are no good any more??? Just because they were put on once? Even if I had just put them on last week?
I have reused u bolts with no problems. I've seen other bolts break. Does that mean once u tighten a bolt it's no longer usable??? |
