Default Tune-up for a five hour drive

So I'm going to college in August and from Dayton, Oh to BG, Ky is about a 5/6 hour drive. My Jeep has about 200K -a little under i think- on it and I was wondering what things I should do and check to make sure its able to make the hilly drive multiple times a year to college and back.

Thanks in advance,

complete tune up if not done in the past 2 yrs ..... get a good cap/rotor with brass contacts. Got mine from Summit racing cap with rotor for about the same as the local NAPA wanted for their "premium" cap alone.

Change belt and hoses if more than a few yrs old ... Id save old belt and and hoses for a "just in case" day.

Change all fluids..... drain and refill TC case, differentials and trans.

Suction gun out the PS fluid......refill, run for a little while and do it again. Usually takes ones I have done 3 changes to get them back to clear.

Ive got 230k+ now on my most driven one I own and I used to drive it 5 hrs each way every other weekend for almost 2 yrs. I wouldnt be scared to jump in it and go just about anywhere.

I always kept a cpl of milk crates for mine when going out of town...one had the old belt/hoses. Gallon of oil, 2 of coolant, 3 qts ATF and 1 ps fluid. Other one had tool set, rags, and a set of old clothes in it. They were very handy and easy to take in and out when I needed them.

I make several 12 hr drives from NC to MI every year and basic maintenance like rmart said does wonders. I'm over 230K and wont think twice to hop in and make long drives. I too carry my tools and fluid with me everywhere I go cause you never know, plus home and car trailer is 700 miles from me right now. Made some cool friends helping out people on the side of the road.

With a long drive, one of the main things I'd focus on is the cooling system. So if you haven't done it in a while, give it a good flush and maybe throw in a new thermostat and hoses. Also, if you're lifted and have bigger tires, I'd consider throwing in an auxillary transmission cooler (in ADDITION to the factory tranny cooler in the radiator.

Tune-up required for a5 hour drive is the same as the normal tune-up you do for going to the local store. A tune-up is a tune-up. If due for maintenance you do it. If you do the required maintenance, it won't matter how far you plan to drive.
