I had to have one put in a severely weather cracked tire a year or two ago, if I recall correctly it cost me $15 for the tube and $10 to have it put in.

Just wondering why you say that? They make tubes that are specifically for radial tires and are meant to be ran on the road.

Radial tire tube. <-----Clicky. Same ones you can get from Fleet Farm. I usually get mine directly from POMPS tire, but you have to be a wholesaler to do that.

Edit: Heres the ones at Fleet Farm

I am more worried about the torn bead. I know about tubes and they are actually pretty safe, but a torn bead is not safe and needs to stay off the road

depends on the level of damage... most likely not an issue... I mean I would not used a somewhat damaged tire on my motorcycle... esp a 1000cc sport bike, but on a truck that will likely never go above 80 mph... I see no problem

on a side note:

the annoying thing about tubes is you can not use balancing beads

This is awesome. I recently put a hole in the side of a mud tire with about 1000 miles on it. Now I can use it as a spare.

Any word on how these radial tubes are safe to use? I thought the whole problem was friction?
