Measure from the axle tube to the frame rail, stock is something like 6" rear, front is around 6.75".
Once you have established how much lift you have, figure out how tall your spacer needs to be to get the same lift front and back.

I'm pretty sure he means they settle at 2" after they are installed and slowly lose lift. This happens because your stock leaf pack has sagged quite a bit over the years and the single added leaf cannot hold all of the weight by itself. It will eventually give up and then you will just have an extra flat leaf in your pack.
If you can afford new leaf packs, go ahead and get them now. It will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Most new 3.5" packs will put you around 5" at first. They will settle and end up at the right height after they are broken in. So, don't try to match up the front until this happens, or you will have to adjust as the springs settle.
