Trimmed a lot... Bushwackers still don't fit righ
Hi, so I've got some Bushwacker cutout flares that I scored brand-new still in the box for $350. I already had done a front fender trim and a cut-and-fold prior to getting these, and just had it covered up with armaflex. That being said, the fronts were a breeze, especially since I had clecos to hold them up while I drilled. On the rear, they were nowhere near fitting, so I trimmed off about 85-90% of the pinch seam and just left a section at the top to semi-preserve the unibody.
Going to be filling it with some great stuff foam or some loctite (already tried the loctite, makes a good strong bond/seal, although it's very clumpy and hard to work with at first, nothing an IPA rag can't fix)
I guess my question would be to you guys, is how much did you end up trimming off when you installed your cutouts? I've already trimmed waaaaaay more than I wanted to and I still can't seem to get everything to line up. Also not much mention on what to do with the smaller trim pieces that come with the kit in the instructions. They seem to be geared more towards 84-96 xjs. I'm at the end of my rope on this one, the last thing I want to do is modify the flares, since I want to keep them stock in case I get another XJ.
And now, to make everyone on CF cry....

To be a little bit more specific about how they're not fitting correctly, I can either get the rear portion to line up with the top of the fenderwell or the side of the jeep with the shape of the body, not both. If I installed them as my quarter panels sit right now, they would either not be level or there would be gaps in the back

Yeah, I regret doing it, but I do own a welder so it can be fixed later, for now I just filled it. Got a ******** cop that lives down the street who starts his shift the same time I leave for work. You can figure out the rest. But I've cut off waaaay more than you need to right? I can't tell if it's me going crazy or these things really don't fit right...

Lots of the flares have a cutoff date of 96 back and 97 up due to body changes. But man you really cut the $hit out of your body for some crappy flares JMHO, how big of tires you plan on running 35's, 37's?

I scored them cheap because some guy who parts out XJs bought one that had a set in the back, he said the PO had taken a front one out of the box, held it up to the fender, and didn't like it, so he just threw it in with the parts jeep. The rears were still sealed in the box. I will try to get a picture today of the flare held up.
