Transmission upgrade or not?
I have 1993 xj 4x4 with automatic transmission. It does have 3 in rough country lift kit. Soon to be daily driver. I travel constantly looking in to purchasing a camper under 16ft and less than 4000lbs. So will the factory transmission hold to pulling that load? Does anyone know of a aftermarket transmission out there built to with stand a load that size? Price of aftermarket transmission is not really a problem open to any suggestions under 2k.

Depending on what size tires you are running the AW4 is very tough. Add a good trans cooler and maybe a trans temp gauge to keep an eye on the temps. Just remember heat is the enemy.

With the Cherokee it's not the PULLING that's the problem.. It's the STOPPING. I would not want to pull a large camper with my XJ. Maybe a small pop-up type.
