Default Transfer case blew

Ok my transfer case blew up on me the other day (meaning that the case just broke in half while driving) and now it just sits in the driveway after the tow home. I really need the Jeep but cant afford a new tc right now. Is there a way I can make it drive in 2wd for now? What will I need? When I put it in gear now it goes nowhere and when I put it back in park it grinds for a sec then stops. I really need the Jeep cause I hate driving the wifes car and she needs it anyway. Its a 96 xj country with the 242 if that makes a difference. I will be fixing it with tax money but just cant wait that long and dont have the money yet. Being in the military is not always a great thing! (Being Broke all the time!!) Please help me!!

Sorry to hear about the bad luck! Unfortunately there is not an easy way to make it 2wd. You would need a 2wd trans and rear driveshaft. Try to find someone parting out a Cherokee and buy the tcase off them. You should be able to use a 231 or 242 but I can't confirm that.

t-case being blown up means.... its blown up.. thats no good. not usable.... yup you can run either a 242 or 231.... if you go for a 231 you would need to adjust the t-case shifter... get one from any cherokee 92-96... i'm not sure what year the wire harness changed for the t-case but maybe also a 97 xj t-case.

t-cases from Grand cherokee's won't work though... just so ya know.. (they have a longer input shaft for the back of the tranny)
