It's just a simple heat exchanger to get the trans fluid up to operating temp; a very small amount flows between two walls of pipe. I doubt there's enough fluid going through there to drive up the temp all that much. You're talking a few ounces at a time out of an 8 quart capacity. Should really be a non-factor with an aftermarket cooler installed, so long as it's the last component in the loop.

DexIII/Merc ONLY.

The confusion comes because Chrysler at some point started telling people to use ATF4. They were wrong. They spread confusion.

The transmission manufacturer, Asin-Warner, has always specified DexIII/Merc.
