Default Tranfer case to a twin stick?

I have been reading some information on changing over to a twin stick, I understand that the np231 cannot be changed over. Has anyone upgraded to a twin stick and if so what did you change to and how hard of a mod is it. Thanks

I twin sticked the D20 in my CJ but like the D300 all it required was different shifters and removing a pin. I've also done a 205. For 90% of people it would be a waste of money, most don't need to do front digs and such and if you want the 2 wheel low you can modify a 231 to get that. As for how hard it is like said above me get a case made for it and bolt it in. They aren't cheap. Atlas and Stak are over 2k plus shifters and new drive shafts. With a D300 you can get them fairly cheap but to make it worth it you'd need to swap out the gears and buy a flip kit and shifter and drive shafts as well.

Yep. I am planning on building a bombproof d300 for my YJ. When I do a 8.8 swap it'll have cutting brakes ( building a stock class comp rig ) and where I play front digs will be useful I want guys on 37's in JK's scratch their heads when a Yj on 3.5" lift and 33's does a front did lol

If you have a 231 already dont do a d300 with a 4:1. save an extra $100 (if you can afford 4/1 gears $100 extra wont kill you to save lol)
and buy a doubler kit from ddmachine. This way you get your high range, your low range you have now and a 7:1 double low range along with your twin stick you originally wanted.

As for the twin stick thing, it sounds a lot cooler than it really is. 2wd low range is the most useful thing you'll get out of it.

I agree on most of what you said except the it sounding cooler than it really is. Not only can you do 2 low with a d300 but you can also do front digs (fwd) in high and low.

We do sale doubler kits also so check out our site. Our kits come more complete than D and D.

Not to sound like a newbie or anything, but what is "front digs" and where would it be useful?

ability to send power to either the front or rear axle separately (put the rear in neutral, front in 4lo). in a tight situation where you need to move the front end over you can just engage the front axle, turn the tires, and step on the gas. the front end should drag itself over so you can position better

The short answer a chain driven case can't be done but any gear driven case can pretty much.Gear driven is like np205 np203 dana 20 dana 300.

So if I wanted to drop d300 in what mods are needed? I understand that the 300 would need to be flipped unless I went with a passenger side drop, and what's the deal with combining a 231 and 300, being the 231 is chain driven and the 300 is gear.

A doubler kit uses the front half of a 231 t case (where the planetary reduction gear is) and bolts it to another t case; usually another complete 231 or D300. http://froehlichsuspension.3dcartsto...pter_p_14.html

This gives you multiple gearing options with a 231

High, 2 wheel high (standard 2wd driving, 1:1)
Low, 2 wheel high. (rear wheel drive low, 2.72:1)
High, 4 wheel high (standard 4wd high, 1:1)
High, 4 wheel low (standard 4wd low, 2.72:1)
Low, 4 wheel low (4wd with extra low:low, 7.39:1)

If you get a D300 with the round bolt pattern like the 231 or 242 then it will bolt right on to the back of the "crawl box" (first half of the front 231 case plus adapter).

When using a doubler adapter, they always come with clocking rings so you can tuck your case up or rotate a case; like the D300. Then all you have to worry about is shifting the D300, most use cable shifters.
