Track Bar Conversion?
Just lifted my 2000 XJ with a 3" Rough Country lift and got crazy death wobble. Had it aligned, tires balanced, and new sway bar links installed and that took out a majority of the shakes but if i hit a bump over 55mph I have to come to almost a complete stop for it to stop shaking. I just ordered a new steering stabilizer shock and am replacing the tire rod ends this weekend. My question is, if none of that stuff solves my DW problem is a track bar conversion kit going to be worth it? Or should i just put in a new adjustable track bar? I'm specifically looking at the Hard-KOR Track bar conversion from Kevins offroad with the upgraded super hard bushings.
Then my second question is which conversion kit is better or "more worth the price" Kevin's offroad Hard-KOR kit? Iron Rock offroad kit? or the Ironman 4x4 fab kit. My buddy swears by the Hard-KOR kit, he has a XJ with a 6.5" lift and 35's and gets no death wobble at any speed. From his experience I'm leaning towards that one. Thanks for the help! |
The track bar still may not fix it but I went with the Ironman Fab kit and it is super beefy. In the end castor fixed my death wobble but every case is different. Good luck getting it sorted, its a pain in the @$$!

Double sheer is the only way to go! I think you'll be happy with either bar, I've heard great things about both.

I would go IRO double sheer its one of the strongest track bars i know of.

Does anyone know if the IRO track bar can use the Kevin's offroad super hard bushings?

The IRO bushings are more than sufficient.

Also, i cant find a set explanation on what a track bar conversion does and why it is beneficial rather than just replacing with a standard adjustable bar?

Take everyone's advice and go with the double shear track bar.

It's not really a conversion it's just an upgrade. If you only do mild off-roading you will be fine with a single sheer adjustable bar and the stock bracket. I chose to go with a double sheer bar and bracket for the fact that I will never break it. For me if I'm going to upgrade something I want it to be as strong as possible so I won't have to mess with it again. It's your choice so do what you feel fits your needs.

I'm of the same "one and done" kind of belief. If I'm already spending $200+ on something I'd rather do it right the first time. My big thing is if it's going to help my death wobble over large bumps at only 50mph. I see xj's taller than mine cruise over them on the expressway with no problems and when i go over them at 50 i get DW. So i've decided to replace most everything that could be part of the problem.

That my friend is the way to do it, if worn or broken replace/upgrade and remember the TRE upgrade to a mid-90's V-8 GC cheap and a real upgrade for under a $100.
