Default Track Bar 101

I have just put a 3" lift and 33" tires on my 2001 XJ. The tire on the driver's side sticks out about 1-2" further than the passenger side front tire. The guys at the tire shop told me I need an adjustable front track bar to correct this and that the stock TB is a weak link on lifted XJs.

There are a wide variety of track bars out there from $100 up to $wow.

I don't know much about suspension and steering. I want to buy the right part so I only have to buy it one time.

What's the right way to go with this?

Thanks-
Brian

You want to buy a track bar setup that matches your steering setup. you want to draglink to be as level as possible and your track bar to be as parallel to your drag link as possible. Additionally, like you have experienced, your track bar needs to be the proper length to locate your axle side to side.

If you are keeping the stock steering then most will go with a standard adjustable track bar replacement with maybe a drop bracket in double sheer. Look at your steering angle from the front strait on and assess where you might want to start. If you are going to add a drop pitman arm, do that first then buy a track bar with the proper drop to match.

I hope all this makes sense

With a 3" lift, a drop pitman arm is really just a waste of money. I would just go with an adjustable track bar with a double shear bracket and call it good.

Really any jeep lifted 3" or over usually needs an adj track bar in order to properly center the front axle. Definitely get yourself a quality track bar, this is not a part that should be taken lightly. I personally run the BDS track bar. Works great for me.
