Default TOTM front bumpers

TOTM FOR DECEMBER 2011 FRONT BUMPERS!

TOTM (Topic Of The Month) is a group effort posting helpful info. Post what pics you have on the topic, as well as helpful info for people looking into these topics for their first time. The Idea is to have a less hardcore verison of pirates TOTM here on CF.

Let's see what you've done for front bumpers, winch plates, mounting, hardware, stingers, after market, or home brewed? (NO BACK BUMMPERS, that will be covered another month. thanks)

Remember to update any of our older TOTM threads as you build, & help me, help you by throwing out some suggestions for future topics here. http:// www.cherokeeforum.com/f19/tot...gestion-93121/

I've been running the detours backbone system for 2+ years now! For the price, & quality, I love it. I did trim the factory bumper skin as directed by detours, but only used it for inspections. Its 1/4" thick threwout, & the 6 mounting bolts support the steering box enough to take the unibody abuse of 35"s in extreme off road conditions!
Heres my detours setup.

Now lets see what your running???

Trimmed factory. Then got a sweet deal on JCR's prototype.

Really happy with the JCR, but will be adding a prerunner bar eventually.

I wanted a light weight Tube bumper. I built this with 1.75" tubing. Light enough the wife could hold it in the air..lol

for 9yrs i ran this custom built thing. worked great with the 8274

then got an XRC8 so made a few minor modifications to it.

then i decided a bumper only sticks out in the way, so i narrowed the front end and made a crossmember and mounted the winch behind that below the radiator. here's the only pic i could find at the moment of the new design.

Cool, TOTM I can participate in.
Heres mine, 3/16s boxed for the main bumper, D-ring brackets are 3/8s and we used 3/16 2x2 for the ends protecting the front fender. 5 bolts per side attach it to the Jeep. Its worked really well for winching and as a tow point. Only thing I'd have done differently is I would have made it tuck in alot closer to the Jeep as when it was built I was a newb and had very little understanding of approach angle, luckily its beefy enough to bash on! My next one will still have a similar look, but be higher and tighter.

What I learned while building it. I should mention my stepdad helped me, 40 years as a welder and welds on chairlift towers for a living, he knows his Sh.......Er Stuff! 3/16's is plenty tough enough for most anything if your design is boxed, I believe him now.

This started out as a warn combo winch bumper for my old toyota then modified it to fit a 12k warn winch. Made it wider and a little deeper and added the side pieces and then welded the whole thing together. I ran 1/4 in plate down both sides and double plated the d/s along with the inside behind the P/S box. Tied that together with 1/4 in 2x4 rectangular stock and then welded the bumper to that. so far after 7 or 8 yrs its still in place and has not tried to move and its had some pretty hard pulls.
