Torque wrench for differential work

I'm trying to collect the tools needed to regear my differentials.

I think I'm good for most of them but my torque wrenches are all click style which won't be useful for setting bearing preloads.

So far, I haven't gotten very far trolling ebay for a dial inch/lb torque wrench.

Will I be really handicapped with a beam style one.

The Park TW-1 (from a speciality bicycle tool manufacturer) is readily available for ~$40.

Will it do the trick?

TORQUE WRENCH

Actually a few months ago the Harbor Freight torque wrenches were tested and found to be very good for the money. I believe they are
Pittsburgh brand ?????

Go for it .... Randy

I use this one.

Works perfectly. I just have to use adapters to get it all the way up to 3/4 drive so I can put the pinion nut socket on it.

I read the same review on the HF brand. The thing I took from that review to is to always leave your torque wrench at the absolutely lowest setting to help prevent spring set. I've done it since. Good tip for any brand torque wrench.

The HF torque wrenches may OK for general use.

However, they are all click type and aren't appropriate for setting bearing preload/drag.

It looks like there is a consensus the the beam style works fine though.
