Default Tires for a Stock XJ with JK 17"s ?

I Just picked up a set of stock JK 17"s for My stock 95 XJ. I also just ordered spidertrax wheel adapters. Does anyone know what size tires would look the best? I'm debating on a small lift also.. maybe 2". As for the tires I was thinking 285/65/R17 (31.x11.2x17) does anyone have a pic of a stock height xj with 17's?

Stock won't fit with 31s with the flares on it. 29" is about as big as you can go. Something like a 215/70/17 would fit and be a bit bigger than stock.

Do the math a 215/70/17 is 29x8.5x17.

Oh Nevermind, its more like 28". If you're doing a 2 inch lift 31's should be okay.

And tires are always shorter than advertised when on the vehicle.

Not always and metric sizes tend to be much closer. My 265x75x16 MTZs on my Cummins measure out to 32.5" which is actually bigger than what they should be. Now get a BFG or Maxxis and they are usually at least an inch shorter than sidewall size in standard but metric are dead on.

245/65/17 would be 29.5x9.5x17. It might rub a little on a stock suspension depending on how worn out your springs are but would look pretty good.

Wheel spacers will make the tires stick out farther but won't help with fender clearance.

Right.. I can trim the fenders if needed.. I was thinking about going with the $99 2" Rustys shackle and spring spacer kit.. Then getting the 31" tires. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on it.. I plan on selling it next summer.

Stock jk rims have like 6" of back spacing where as your XJ probably had closer to 3 or 4". So after the spacers you are still likely to be the same width depending on the spacer thickness.
