tires popping off wheels

How often do you have or see someone on the trail without beadlocks aired down and having the tire pop off the bead? When do beadlocks become necessary?

j-rod 08-29-2011 12:32 PM

i lost two off the bead my last ride. aired to 13 psi. lost an LTB.

im currently casually looking for 15 x 7" soft 8's to help with this issue. im running 8" wide wheels currently

i aired down to 15 psi on 35 MT Crawling out in AZ (back way up to Crown King/very rocky n dry.) and lost a seal. i think it was mostly due to me picking the wrong line though.

15lbs on 12.5" wide MT/Rs and 10" wide wheels, have not lost a bead yet. It seems to be luck of the draw, though its related to the tire/wheel youre running. some guys can run 8 lbs without ever losing and bead and other pop them off at 15. whether or not youre going to need beadlocks is going to be trial and error, or if you know you for sure want to run 2lbs in them

I have run 12psi-ish, 33x12.5 on 10" wide without an issue.... yet. Not really sure what I'd do on trail if I did have an issue lol.. Haven't thought about it

MUDRUNNER AZ 08-29-2011 02:45 PM

I run between 10 and 15 depending on the trail and have not lost a bead yet either. Knock on wood. 10 in rims with either 35's or 36's.

I am wanting to run 15x10 with 35x12.5" tires so that is good to hear. Are there any wheel brands out there that stand out for making good beadlock wheels? I'm looking at Trail Ready and Champion right now...

I know a lot of people running Marsh (MRW) and Allied. I run 6 in my 38s on an 8 inch wheel but they are new and once the sidewalls get broken in I'll go up to about 8psi.

I just ran 10psi all weekend on my bfg ats and didn't lose a bead, a little low for my taste, my buddy aired them down while I was in the bathroom! Lol. I'm on 15x8 with 33x12.50...I like 15 psi really.

I run 8-10psi with 36x12.5x15 on 15x10 Never lost a bead. I have tried to tell meany people on here that you want your rim only around 2" narrower then your tire but some people don't listen. But I have met some on the trails with aluminum bead locks losing the inner bead at 15psi. After talking to them found out the bead only contacting half of the rims inner lip! Yet another reason for me to hate on aluminum rims. And yes I cleaned the bead, ratchet strapped the tire, and aired it up for him. He didn't know how!!!!!!!!!!!

x2 on the marsh racing wheels. my boss runs them on his cj and they perform and look badass.

X2, 10-12psi with 12:50's on a 10" rim no issues. but I always carry carb cleaner "just in case"

j-rod 08-30-2011 07:21 AM

i now carry Co2.

JeepingDan 08-30-2011 07:27 AM

I've run 15 psi on 8" rim and 33 12.50"s all day and have not lost a bead seal yet.

PingPong 08-30-2011 11:00 AM

The narrower the rim the better. Before I got beadlocks I ran 33x12.5 and 35x12.5's on 8" wide rims at 10psi no issues ever with losing a bead.

Now I run 3psi on my 36's with beadlocks:grin: To be fair the tires only have 3 runs on them and still arenot broke in.
