Tire pressure question???
I recently purchased a set of 31x10.50/15 Mickey Thompson MTZ's...
They came mounted and set at 50psi....my question is....does anyone have a suggestion on what pressure I should run them at for my daily driver XJ???? |
I'd say like 33ish, that's where my 31's are at.
|
I run my 31's at 44 psi on the street for smooth and balanced wear. Yes that's hard but your runnin pavement. Got to 20 to 30 for offroad. I don't do less than 20 since no beadlocks.
Have done with Goodyears, Goodrich, Uniroyal (they rate 50psi for max loading). Peeps got 634000km so we've done the testing. |
Asking about tire pressure is about like asking what's the right oil to use. LOL
Every tire is different. Use manufacturer specs and go from there. You want a nice even contact patch across the treads. For me its 36-40 on road. 10psi off road. |
you guys running over 35psi are crazy. thats a contact patch about the size of my big toe. i run my 35s at 28-30 and thats an even wearing contact patch across the tire.

Sheesh i run like 18 psi on my 33s lmao. Daily driven
Sorry to go off topic:) |
Use the chalk test it works,You draw a chalk line across the tire and drive it around. The you look at the chalk line if its gone in the center too much psi if its gone on the edges not enough psi.
|
Thanks everyone. Chalk test sounds logical. I will try it out and see what psi is best for mine.
|
31 works fine for me. Not too harsh and not too squishy.
