Hey I installed some aftermarket fans and they are hooked straight to the battery via a temp sensor. So they stay on until I get to 185° even when the cars off (from 210 to 185 is 20 mins) does anyone know how I could wire them to stay on for ~5 mins after I shut the Jeep off? I don't want to kill my battery!

you don't need a timer...

all you need a relay and a temp switch and temp switch housing out of a Saab 900 from the 80-90s

I already have a temp switch. Turns the fans on at 185/205. My engine holds heat too long.

Just don't wire them to direct power. Wire them to switched power.

I think you really need a 12V delay timer, with a signal source from your ignition. Check www.Newark.com and just be sure to verify the amperage required for the fans and a 12V voltage range. OR, get a turbo timer, and you can keep the entire truck running for how ever long.

X2. I don't have an optima yet. Normal batteries aren't mean to discharge that much without the alternator powering it.

Like someone said you need to run the control side if the relay off an ignition power source.

You can find a cheap turbo timer and wire it to the fans themselves and set your desired time.

I bought an elcetric fan controler from Oreillys. It just had a thermocouple that slid inbetween the cores on the radiator, had a dial to adjust temp on/off. Also had the relay and fuses. Has two fan outputs and a input to turn them on w/ the AC.

Does your setup cool more than just the coolant in the radiator?

Do the fluids still circulate after the motor has been shut off?

I'm not trying to be a jackdonkey, I'm just wondering how anything gets cooled off inside the motor or transmission once the motor is shut off.
