I was musing on this article today, as I swapped over the suspension from my smashed XJ to my "new" XJ

note the time taken to install a lift kit ...30-60min...isnt that article part of this forum?

it took me about that long to wrestle out the shock absorber bolts without breaking them

just for the record it took me 2.5hrs to remove the front suspension parts, it took 4hrs to R&R the rear suspension.

No hoist, power tools, hadnt been apart for a long time

I cant imagine a supplier wouldnt allow a minimum of 3hrs to fit an XJ suspension kit.

I have done it a few times now, its quicker if everything is copperslipped

As for 30mins..I will have some of what that guy has been taking please

yeah really. it takes nearly 30 minutes just to lift it onto jack stands. lol.

i've done many lifts now also, and with a couple guys, it can be done in a day. if you're alone, good luck getting done in a weekend.

but it really depends on what lift you're installing. coil spacers and axle blocks could be done in a couple hours, if you've done it before. but for first time, it will take all day.

and 250-500, that won't cover the cost of the shocks...

Took me months to do my long arms/bastard packs. Was also my first big project I ever tackled.

I've been experimenting with cooking recently and I find the same thing with recipes online. Says 10 minutes of prep, takes me 30+.

The prices are also way off. Where are you gunna get a professional to install a lift kit plus the price of parts for $500? Even a budget boost would probably run you much more than that.

ok job done..you get to do it twice when its a SWAP

seeing as I have swapped this particular lift kit twice, plus a previous rear spring swap

fingers crossed people will stop slamming into my Jeep !

like to see how much faster I can get, and compare myself to a pro mechanic, think of the money I am saving

I consider it a must to drop the lower control arm and trackbar to mount a front LIFT spring (in my truck they are polybush, and adjustable, so to be swapped anyway

the video shown by BleepinJeep of compressing the heck out of the springs and then using a prybar is insanely dangerous imo

I do believe I can now R or R a suspension unit in under 2hrs, which makes 8hrs total, but brutally hard work, and not accounting for anything going wrong

On a 23yr old vehicle, its likely some issues will arise.

a mate of mine is a mechanic who works a lot on vintage cars and charges a premium rate, broken fasteners are a very expensive proposition for his clients

I had the upper control arms unbolted, but yeah, I saw that video and said "Why do all that work??? I can take three bolts out and put them back faster than the time it takes you to go find the spring compressor!"
