Default time for a speakers upgrade what do you recommend?

Hey guys well I figured I will upgrade my speakers cause they suck and I hate listening to music in my car because of that. Clean sound and bass make a big difference as for now I dont really have a budget but I dont want to spend too much.

I have a 98 jeep cherokee Iv been reading around and alot of people say stock size speakers are 5.25 I guess some people fit 6.25s or 6.5s but with some modifications, Ima just stick with 5.25 all around maybe 6.25 in the back sound bar I read some people said they fit better in there than 5.25 but guess Il see.

Now what speakers brand and model would you guys recommend ? I heard polk audio, oz audio, jbl, rockford, infinity and some others are good brands but more specifically what model number ? I would probably get 4 of them I think that's how many speakers the cherokee has correct?, unless it came with a infinity system which mine did not.

I also got a atlas hifonics 12in square sub woofer it has 900rms continues power and 1800watt maximum power, what kind of amp would you guys recommend for this ?

I dont know to much about car audio as i never got into it to much and never played around with it but I guess its time to start, my neighbor knows how to do this stuff so I would probably get some help from him.

thanks

I replaced the speakers in my Cherokee recently. for a stock replacement 5.25 speaker the best I found were alpine type s.. sounds pretty good, I also have an aftermarket head unit so 50 watts is going to each speaker.

I recently upgraded the system in mine. I installed a Sony head unit, Sony Xplod 5.25 2-way speakers in the front doors and Kicker 5.25 2-ways in the rear. Down the road I'll probably add a sub-woofer, but for now I'm pleased with what I've got. Not much bass but it's loud and clear. Plus I spent under $250 on all of it, so that's a bonus.

When I did my speakers, I replaced front and back with 5.25's, but I also wired in 2 boxed 6x9's in the rear cargo area. They actually get decent sound. They have a tweeter, a mid range (5.25) speaker and a 6x9inch rear speaker, so its very level. The 50 watts from the head unit was enough to get good sound from it, and it worked great.

I have since added a Rockford Fosgate 10inch ported sub with a 400 watt Punch amp. For a lower budget/less speaker setup, it actually sounds really nice. Just a thought. Unless you listen to a ton of hip-hop or want a boomin setup though, the 5.25's with the 6x9's actually sounds really nice.

What'd you do, just mount the boxes to the floor?

I did 6.5" in the rear and the doors. Exact fit in the sound bar, the doors on the other hand took a little work. I used Infinity Kappa's in the rear, MB Quart's in the door, Kicker 10" Comp woofer, and just installed a new Kenwood Digital Media player. I have a 4 channel Alpine amp and an Alpine subwoofer amp, can't remember wattages of the amps. Everything sounds awesome. I would definitely recommend the Infinity speakers, I've had a lot of 2 way 6.5" speakers in my day and these sound the best. I would also recommend Alpine amps, I've had mine for like 8 years with no issues. I would recommend an amp if you upgrade your speakers, it costs more but you can't beat the sound your speakers will produce with an amp.

50 watts isnt going to each speaker. only 18-22 watts rms is going to the speakers. the 50 watts is peak power and they always advertise that to make it seem better

Well this is what I run in my xj

pioneer deck
factory door speakers (I think? never opend it up. mines a 2 door so no rear door speakers for me)
rockford prime 6x9's in back
JL 500/1 amp
two kendwood 12"s in sealed box.

I'v run a pair of jl w3v3's, mtx 5500 12, a mephis power refrence 12 (HIT HARD!!!) pair of JL 8"s, cheapo pioneer and a cheap rockford 12..

So far my favorit sub Iv run in the xj was the memphis.

I bought that box about 9 years ago at a local Audio shop. Back then they still were carrying stuff for the XJ. I know there is a guy on the forum who builds boxes similar to this one. Mine is molded plastic and he builds his out of wood. Do a search on here for XJ sub boxes. Wish I could remember his screen name, but he ships his with a kicker sub already installed, really nice boxes. If I didn't already have this one I would buy one from him.

Yeah I've seen that thread and his boxes, they're the nicest I've seen.

I just finished my system, i put in infinity 6.5" components in front and rears with no mods needed they fit just fine. I am running an alpine amp for the fronts ant rears as im hoping that people who are saying their radio is pushing 50watts really understand that theyre getting MAYBE 20rms. and then i just ran another amp for my sub in the rear panel and its more than ample sound.
