Default Time for new shoes....help me choose

background
99 XJ
4" lift
highway driven, Will be a daily driver for a little bit. 60+ miles a day.
Obviously its winter now, Would like something that will handle the snow and ice pretty good. I do like to do my share of wheelin, trails and rocks mostly, not a huge fan of the deep mud.
I've been looking at the BFG KM2, and hear good things about em. But I also hear that the large lugs of mud tires make em suck on ice, but doesnt pretty much anything other than studded tires?
oh and size, i'm pretty sure I'm set on 31x10.5x15 I could probably go up to 32", but i do rub slightly at full flex locked on my current "31" but they actually measure 29.5".
Anyhow, what do you guys think?
on and I'm in Michigan year round.

I would use the Cooper Discover STT or the pirelli all terrain scorpion tire. Both of which are better then just the common mid grade tire. If you drive ALOT more then you wheel then the cooper which is a "mud" type tire might not be for you. Since you did say you drive 18,000 miles or more a year but i do know from more then one local jeeper that they last 50,000 or more miles. Not sure how they work in snow and ice (hell I've never even seen snow) but I will say they do amazing in sand, mud, rocks, and are VERY quiet on the road.
The Pirelli's are an all terrain type tire and do AMAZINGLY WELL in every thing from mud to rock. They last 60,000+ miles on the road and I can not even tell you how many times it felt I felt I had a mud tire under my 2wd open diff jeep. Both tires have a very mean look to them and both would make any jeeper VERY happy. Good luck hope I helped.

Heres my advice. KM2's are a great tire for a tow rig. Very weak sidewalls and they dont clean out in mud. Even at 5 psi on my beadlocks they dont hook up on anything.

MTR with kevlar hands down is the best all around tire out here in the PNW.

Wrangler Dura Trac. Decent lugs, a fair bit of siping (better than a lot of other tires with similar mud capabilities). They are a 10 ply tire so that's good for puncture resistance and are pretty quite and behave well on the pavement. I live in Vermont and the winters and roads can be pretty rough. I run my duras year round and I'm pretty happy. Here's a pic of them in action!

I'd probably go with A/Ts if I was driving it on the road that much.

I like them coopers. I believe they are made in the US as well. As a union auto worker I like to support american made products anytime I can. I'm going to see what the best deal I can get is on them.
I really cant go any higher than $750 out the door. I need one more choice. I'd like to go in there with three and see what I can get the best bang for the buck on.

Being a michigander myself there is no way I would run KM2's year round I've had friends run em and they slide everywhere on our crappy roads lol. There a great tire off road and good manners int he summer but whats a Jeep if you cant drive it when the weather gets bad. Get a winter rated tire. I ran Duratracs I loved those tires.
