time for 1-tons?
Hey, im currently running a d30 front and a d44 rear and 33 inch tires with air lockers im starting to find my rigs weak points with my new 33s I have killed a yoke on the 44 ( I now keep 3 spares) and I think I cracked the d30 so im thinking its time for big boy axles im dead broke right now so if something costs me less but requires a extensive amount of labor I don't mind at all ( I have to much free time) I am tempted to just upgrade the front and leave the back as is but im not sure ( I have several offers on my 44 best yet is 500$) if im going to go for a axle upgrade should I take it all the way with rockwells or d60s I don't mind having wider axles as long as the front and back come close to the same length before anyone gets on me for not searching I have searched alot and im kindof just lost I would love advice or links to a helpful thread or opinions.... here is some more info on my xj its a 87 its chopped I have a 4.7 stroker I typically don't admit to being stuck until I have broke something I wheel it hard to say the least it has had more air time than some planes I have stopped trying to put the jeep in orbit since I got my new tires my new love is mud and occasionally rocks im a member of the no swaybar club, thanks in advance

Well my problem is not only that money is tight but I am up to my neck in projects for the xj, its got to the point where I get boxes of goodies in the mail and im not sure what each part is for right off hand im not joking when I say im installing racing bucket seats front and back, making a roll cage , installing a snorkel, making stacks, making tube fenders, lifting it more, waterproofing the xj, installing marine speakers and radio, installing a cb with 7 foot antenna, making a bumper and rock sliders, installing rock lights, and possibly a axle swap... btw u can do this to your dd too you just have to get a ride to and from work and stop leaving the house or garage entirely ( my neighbors call me the crazy jeep guy)

Ya mine was a actual dd but I kept breaking it so I decided to park it and save up for a dd but I came to the conclusion if I buy another jeep ill end up doing the same thing to it so I just am without a working vehicle most of the time but if needed I can normally put the jeep back together enough to get it drivable in about a hour the good thing Is all my friends know if they need towed out or need help with something to call 2 hours ahead

Dont forget about the 14 Bolt, they are typically cheaper than D60s, but they do need to be modified a little more (shaved) than 60s, I know a guy around here that runs a Semi-Float 14 bolt/60 combo with no problems, and he went a lot to tellico before it was closed.

Ok so if im going to go through the trouble of new axles why not go for rockwells it looks like they would be easier to make all the brackets for them

if you going to continue with the daily driving part regearing of these will be needed or like 50inch plus street tires but if its for play only it will be easier to weld to them being square tube housingshttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rockw...Q5fAccessories

Matt 87, you did state that you were running 33s in your original post, correct?
If you are only running 33s you don't need much of an upgrade, definitely not Rockwells, 14bff, or D/60s. Ground clearance is your friend on trails.
