Big tires Q
If my xj with a dana 35 rear got a 6.5 inch lift and I put 33's on it would I need to upgrade my axle? I won't be doing any heavy wheeling like rock crawling, just a little mudding and trail riding every once and a while(not even that often), but I want to make sure before i break an axle. what do you guys think?

Running mine on rocks with heavy tsl bias ply 33s haven't snapped anything yet. Depends on how you wheel more than what you wheel. Lay off the skinny pedal and it will last you. I have an 8.8 going in around tax time with a beefed up traclok.

I wouldn't trust a dana35 with 33's even on a flat road - some people have lived with them for a while (lucky), but they will not stand up to much torque. I'd start looking for a replacement so you're ready when you need it. And I agree... don't waste your money trying to upgrade it when a 8.8 can be had & installed for cheap. one & a half inch wheel spacer put you right back very close to stock width too.

the D35 "should" be ok open with 33's... can't judge for sure as I don't know how you drive. But a 8.25 is cheap and bolt in. my advise is don't put any money into the D35,Don't repalce anything on it, don't regear it or lock it. Just get a 8.25/8.8/D44 ect when it comes time to upgrade/fix ect.

Good to replace a D/35 I keep reading in here about guys running them and having no problems, but I've seen more D/35s break on the trails than everything else combined.
That is why I can not understand when guys tell new guys that they can run 33-35s without problems on D/35s.
