Default THOR cowl intake

I'm wondering if anyone has installed or had any experience with this intake? I'm considering it because I want to get rid of the factory air box and put a dual battery setup in my Jeep with the factory air box location being the location for the second battery. The add noise from the cowl intake won't bother me, my only concern are if there intake will negatively effect my engines ability to breath.

Any idea as to how much extra height it'll gain over the stock box? I don't really want a snorkel but it looks like it's gonna raise my Max water level by 10 or 12 inches, which would be nice. I don't know where the low point in the cowl actually is, so I'm not positive.

I have read that the driver side can't support the weight of a battery. The cowl intake is a good idea, I plan on putting one on my Jeep.

I hadn't heard that, I'll have to look into it. My Jeeps a 2000 so I wonder if that's true if all year model or just some. Thx

This;
but also how do you change the filter? you have to take the whole shroud off and then the whole tube off of the TB just to pull the filter out of the hole? just wondering...

In the beginning of build i put one on, i really like it. Pic in my build thread. I drove it for a few months and really liked it. Seemed like it helped performance. Then i stopped driving it to build it, several years later i still havent driven it. I do agree that the filter change could be a pain. Never got to that point though. Would have to remove the box at cowl and pull it back towards the engine. Mine is siliconed which is the only reason why that would be a pain. Otherwise its just a few screws and hose clamps. I probably didnt have to silicone the edges but i did. I would buy it again.

This is defently not true.! More than enough strength on driver side.

A few more HP, 3-4 maybe, and more cabin noise.

For you, DD and hardly wheel, I would just leave the stock air filter and box in place and change the paper element every 6 months. They are cheap, $3-6 each on RockAuto, and easy to do. Order 10 of them and you will be good for 5 years for $50 total vs. $250 for the THOR intake.

Unless of course you wanted the space where the factory air box is which seems to be the biggest reason to actually do this type of mod. people use the space for air horns and tool boxes and adding a second battery. All kinds of stuff.
