Thinking of regearing
Since there are so many deals on gears I was thinking about going with it. I will be running 33x10.50's Km2 and don't plan to go any higher. Keeping it moderate.
Thinking of going with 4.56's. I have a manual transmission and make many camping trips up to the mountains here in Colorado. What is everyone running and do they like that combination? Also how are revolution ring and pinions? I have always gone with yukon but there is a good deal on those. |

You have a 4.6 stroker and you're keeping it moderate? :mellow: haha
Anyway, I think most people will say if you REALLY never plan to go any bigger, go 4.56. Otherwise 4.88. Probably even if you plan to ever run 12.5 wides. |

I like the look of 10.5's more then the 12.5's but who knows. I know it will have to be a big upgrade from my 3.07 that are in it now. I don't have the tires on yet, hopefully will be trimming fenders this weekend and installing the front bumper also. I would like to know if other people have 4.88's with 33's, I don't think I will be going bigger for along time if i do decide to. I had my rockcrawler before this is more family and camping vehicle. |
4.56 will probably be the way to go. I think 4.88s with a standard and a stroker will be too low.

As long as you DON'T plan on going to 35's you'd be set. I regeared to 4.56 when I was on 33's (and auto Trans) and loved it. Felt like a new jeep. Shortly after I went 35's an now REALLY wish I went 4.88.... Live & learn 4.56 with a manual would be great.

I hear conflicting stories on the strength of the 4.88 gears, I think it is more of an issue with LP Dana 30 vs. HP Dana 30. But something to consider when choosing.
I had 4.56 gears with a 5spd and 35's in my 2000 TJ and thought they were perfect. I am setting up my XJ on 33's with 4.56 gears now because I got a deal on them, eventually I want to go with 37" tires and will go with new axles and 5.13 gears or higher. (95% trail rig) |
I have 4.0, ax15, 33x12.5x15, and 4.56.
This is a very comfortable gearing if your driving situation/style doesn't demand lots of 70 mph+. |
Thanks for the info guys. I think I will be doing the 4.56.
Any opinions on the revolution gears? From what I have researched seems like a good choice. Not many reviews on them. |

I run 4.56 gears with 35s and the ax-15. The ratio is almost perfect for me, with my only complaint being not a low enough (2.72:1) low range ratio in the transfer case for rocks or obstacles bigger than 30" tall. I'm sure an automatic trans would be much easier in those situations.
A close friend of mine also ran 4.56s on 33s and was super happy. The only drawback was that 70 felt like the fastest you wanted to go without being too hard on the engine. |
