Ok my jeep is no longer my DD so im thinking bout pulling the thermostat out bc it sticks every now and then on the trail but im still going to drive it as a secondary vehicle so i was wondering if it would hurt anything in the summer or winter?

i've had mine out in the 120 degree summers with my elec fan hooked up to a toggle switch and never had a problem. just as long as you keep your fan working and turn it on when you get a little warm for comfort you should be fine. in the winter your engine and heater will take longer to warm up, but i've never had any problem with mine out.

dont take it out. on the drive to the trail mine runs 105* consistently even when it's warm out. colder if I'm driving in less than 40*
it runs about 200* on the trail or sometimes 210*. I would get the same results from a 175* tstat or someting
just replace it. your jeep will never warm up like it's supposed to

Don't take it out. Replace it. Thermostats are there for a reason. Engine parts are made to certain tolerances and are designed to be operated at operating temperature. I'm not saying your engines gonna blow if u take it out but its not good for it to be driving around on an engine that's not warmed up.

Thermostat is there for a reason and should always be used. Its used to get the engine in operating temp. If u remove it your doing two things. Not allowing the radiator time to cool the water down and not allowing time for the heat in the motor time to transfer to the water.

i wouldnt take it out chances are you are going to be going slow while wheeling and if its removed the radiator cant do its job.

I would ****** up a 180* for a jeep that runs rather warm. as far as high flow goes check out hesco. pretty sure you need a high flow housing to go with a high flow stat but don't quote me on that
I've had 2 bad tstats from o'reilly and 1 bad tstat from the dealership. I gave up after 3 tries. so even if you get it from the dealership, check to make sure it works before installing it

Why not give it a try? The worst that is going to happen is you will have to put one back in if it doesn't give the results you like.
If you live in the south it probably won't give you too much headache. I have been in cars when it's in the 30's though and it's not any fun. The heater gets luke warm at best.
As far as hurting the engine, the only ill effect is the fact that the oil will have a hard time getting to operating temp (about 200F). And if it never gets to this temperature it doesn't have a chance to boil off any condensation. Excessive moisture in the crankcase can lead to acid formation which isn't good for the bearings. But if you change the oil every couple of months it won't be a problem.
Another thought for your thermostat issue... Try drilling a hole or two through the thermostat. This will allow the pump to move some water through the thermostat at all times. It helps the thermostat do a better job at regulating heat because it will allow the "warm" coolant to start opening the thermostat before it actually gets "hot". This can reduce the temperature swings that you are seeing.
Either way, good luck! Never be afraid to try something new...
