Default t-case popping when in 4Low

Hi I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem that I am having and how you resolved it. When I 4wheel sometimes my t-case will make a popping or grinding sound and the tires will stop turning while the back continues to spin. Like it is poping out of 4x4. It only happens when it is working harder than usual like if I am trying to tow someone out with my winch or if my truck has a huge flex while it is trying to engange in 4x4. Is this normal? Anyone else have this problem? I tried adjusting the shifter but the same problem is happening. I hope this is clear. Thanks for your help

Bad motor and trans mounts could be the issue.

How did you adjust the linkage?

Buddy's wrangler was doing that. First check your linkage for the transfer case. It may not be engaging 100%. Second, the chain in your transfer case may be stretched.

We checked both on the wrangler & both were the problem. Chain was almost an inch longer than it should have been.

Junkyard chain was $30.00 or so.

also those plastic snap in bushings on the 4x4 linkage tend to wear out and will deflect rather than push the linkage. That whole assembly doesn't wear that well. Motor/trans mounts as well can be a problem, not to mention if you're running a t-case drop; it also doesn't help.

A good fix is the Novak cable assembly. Mine was doing exactly what you mentioned and running that push-pull cable assembly has cured it.

Ok thanks. Yes I adjusted the linkage and checked the bushings it seems fine. I also disconnected the shifter and turned the tcase and the play seems normal (I compared to another truck) so I don't think it's the chain. I did replace 1 front motor mount but maybe that could be the problem. I also do have a t case drop so...

Is it fixed?

Remember, 55 people viewing it doesn't mean all 55ppl know how to fix their own sheet. Some are good at electric, bodywork, etc...

I had a similar issue and got the FST 231 linkage kit (I would not order from him, ever again) and you can make your own at tractor supply. The harder part will be the extension arm off the t-case. But once you get that figured out-it feels WAY better than stock. I still have some fine tuning for 4LOW-it pops out, but I use only 4HIGH for snow and stuff.
