Default SYE install help

I bought a advanced adapters sye kit and Tom woods ds. My question is when I install the kit do I also need to install shims? And if so I got some 4 degree steel shims I will use will they be big enough for my RE 3.5" lift which sits at 4" and I wanna add more lift to make it a 4.5" will the 4 degree shims work?

I thought the sye kit eliminated the need for axle degree shims.

I thought so but the way the sye diagram looks like on Tom woods website makes it seem like the pinion needs to be parallel with the axle

With the fixed yoke the output of the Tcase and the pinion need to be on the same plane. so you may need the shims to tweek this.

Most likely this is true, but you won't know which shims you need for sure until you install the SYE and measure your angles. You need the pinion yoke to be pointing at the tcase output shaft, once you've gotten rid of the slip yoke.

As i understand it you do not want it parallel...but not more than 2 deg.

any one know if this is correct?

Sorry not to thread jack

If the shaft has a CV you want the pinion shaft just below parallel with the driveshaft. That way it will load upwards under torque and be parallel.

If the shaft does not have a CV you want your pinion angle the same as your TC output angle, relative to the DS.

This is correct. To do it right you will have to install the sye, then measure the pinion angle on the axle and determine how many degree higher the pinion needs to point to be just about parallel with the drive shaft. Those 4 degree shims may work though- you could always put them in and see if it vibes or not. I needed about 6 degrees with 5.5" of lift.
