swapping gears question

ive got a d30 and Chrysler 8.25 on my xj, and i have 2 of the same axles that i pulled off my rolled jeep with 4.56 gears/ lockers

i was wondering if i could just pull out the carrier and all and just swap them into my cherokees axles, i know i have to swap pinions but will this be a simple swap or am i going to have to shim and all that?

any info is greatly appreciated :D

switching ball joints would be much easier than setting up gears again.

You'd have to re set up the gears if you swap housings,Because they are mass production and tolerances can very axle to axle. Its a lot easier to swap the whole axles and replace the ball joints to me.
