Super 40 vs. Super 44
 

I've got a couple questions regarding these two mufflers. The first would be which one has a deeper, louder, and more aggressive tone? I've tried looking at youtube vids but they all have crappy quality and you really can't base the sounds off of vids. and another would be how easy/hard are they to install? I have basic mechanical skills, but have never done anything like this before, will they line up with the stock pipe (Mine has been changed so I don't know if it is the same diameter) and stock cat? 40. but get a knock off brand. flowmaster lost their patent so many many companies make them but better. flowmaster makes theirs out of steel which is not good because it will rust out in a year or two. i cant remember the company i got my 40 series from but it was "american ...." i don't remember. and it is made form aluminized steel so it wont rust. it sounds great too! especially when down shifting!

I ran the 40 for a few years, then I upgraded to the 44 which is deeper, and more aggressive. Now I run the 10 which is basically a legal straight pipe. I would recommend that you have it welded on and the cat can either be high flow or stock it doesn't really matter. You will need to know what size pipes you are currently running as well as the set up whether it's offset or center. I have always run flowmaster's on all my jeeps and have never had a problem with them.

The 44 will be deeper sounding. You need a center in / offset out 2.25" if your sticking with the factory tailpipe.

Wrong.. They are aluminized as well. Nobody uses Galvanized Steel for exhaust anymore.

Plus Flowmaster now offers a 3 year warranty on all of their mufflers.

Awesome, Looks like I'm going with the 44, but maybe I'll take a look at the 10. I don't know, but if I don't weld it on will there be any major problems? I can't weld (although I know people who can if it really needs to be welded) and it would probably cost a crapload to get it welded on at a shop. Thanks again guys!

You can clamp a muffler on but it's recommended to weld them. The Super 10 is good, just going to be very loud.

I used a flow master 40, cut out one side and rewelded the output to be centered

as for the guy claiming that they rust out... HAVE YOU SEEN HOW THICK THEY ARE???

I just checked flowmasters website, It says they recommend the super 10's for off-road use only. How loud are they on the XJ's 4.0L I6? I'm going to stick a flowmaster on my DD so if it's too loud I don't want to be getting pulled over by the cops too much!:laughing: If it is too loud I'm sticking with the Super 44

Can't really say how long they are on a 4.0. Just know the company that first made them (Flowmaster actually copied someone else ;) ) designed them to make a 4cyl Ranger as loud as an F150 w/ a 351. It would sound as deep but you get the idea, they are supposed to be loud. Personally I would stick with the 44 especially if you have cops that look for stuff like this.

any mods need be done with the 10 series or did the package come with everything you needed?

The super 40 IS deeper than the spr 44. the spr 40 is a 5x10 case and the 44 is a 4x9.5 case. you can look it up. http://flowmastermufflers.com/index.php?cat=1

The 10 isn't all that loud. Its loud but its not gonna get you pulled over.
I just got the muffler, I already had the header, high flow cat, and 2.5" pipe. If you war running stock pipe you will need to get it welded on because stock pipe is 2.25" and the muffler only comes in 2.5" and up.
That is not the case with the 10 series. It is the deepest of the three and it is also the smallest. Its a little over half the size of my old 40. The 40 and 44 are dual chamber where as the 10 is single chamber.

true but i was comparing the spr 40 & 44 because thats what the op was asking about. but you are right nonetheless.

jmm0122, i hav a 2.5" pipe but i figured i would need an extension pipe to connect the muffler to the pipe and cat seeing as how its so small and wont bridge that gap

I think its safe to say that if your running any type of muffler (flowmaster 44/40/10, dynomax, magnaflow, etc.) you wont get pulled over, the 4.0 isn't THAT loud. Now if your running no muffler or whatever, then thats a different story.
