Stupid question
If I put a 242 T case in my 97 XJ with the 231, will the "full time" light magically come on the dash when it's in full time mode or will some wiring need to be done to accomplish this?

there's a wiring harness that you need that's specifically for this swap. i don't remember the part number, but if i can find the write up that I looked at, i'll post it up. it's a fairly cheap part. i checked in mine and the light bulb was there already, but you may have to check yours. it's the same as every other bulb in the dash.

^^^ I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! ITS NOT THERE!!!
I vote take the whole dash apart and ripping it all out, and just look to see if its back there.......or maybe just look at the two threads above and not listen to me. Id go with option 2.The 1st is down right crazy...

actually that jumper goes from the transfer case itself to some plug near the tranny, so you'd have to tear that apart. but, i supposed you could tear the dash apart, too.

I think I'll just grab the whole cluster out of the donor Jeep even though I'm almost certain every cluster has every light including stuff it doesn't even have. I have and ABS light with no ABS so anything is possible. Thanks for the write up

Seems on my 89 the lite panel has the logo there but no bulb in the socket behind the panel. My 90 has the 242 and the bulb is in the socket. From what I can see the harness looks common. If yours won't light up, no worries, you are still in the mode and the Tcase doesn't care about the light.

Why not just get the shifter bezel? Do you REALLY need the IDIOT light, to tell you that you are in 4wd. I mean you pull the shifter to the first stop, it's in 4FT, push one notch up 4PT.

i'd rather have it working properly. i don't think you need a new dash, just that jumper. i looked at a few write ups for this swap and none of them used new gauges.
